Year two is in the books for Hickory Hill Farm. Our very first year was absolutely wonderful, challenging, and fulfilling. 2017, year two, was nothing less, and we are so excited for 2018.
We have continued our mission of serving the people and animals in our community, providing a retreat like place for the animals we rescue, and relaxing, fun moments and events for people and children— amazingly, all without a main farm facility. Hickory Hill Farm is incredibly blessed with wonderful foster farm facilities that allow us to continue our mission. Last year we announced our Capital Campaign Kick-Off to begin laying the groundwork and fundraising to purchase a main facility one day. That fundraising will continue into 2018 and beyond until we can secure a permanent location for HHF.
At Hickory Hill Farm, our volunteers and fosters work diligently with common goals. We all have a passion for animals. We all have a passion for people. And, we all delight in bringing the two together when we can. Nothing makes our team smile more than to see people and children enjoying fellowship out on the farm surrounded by rehabilitated rescues.
So, what did we accomplish over the past year? Well, we had our ups- seeing countless equine lives transformed and spending wonderful time with people and children on the farm; and, we had our downs- surrounded at times by sadness, negativity and mistreated animals and losing a very special sanctuary horse, Gummi.
In 2017, three of our volunteers and two mini horses (one belonging to Hickory Hill Farm) tested and received therapy team certification with Nationally Recognized, Pet Partners. These teams visit in our community bringing the joy of horses to people. We joined the Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce. We joined the Center for Non-Profit Management and have utilized their workshops and trainings to continue improving our operations. New relationships were developed with several Law Enforcement Agencies, which allowed us to assist with neglect cases and the chance to forge positive relations and lines of communication for future cases. Thanks to the wonderful and supportive community we are in, our fundraising goals were blown out of the water compared to our initial projections allowing us to rescue even more and provide additional program events. We were third runners up in the Brackets for Good competition, raising over $7,000 in one month. This completely paid all pending vet bills at the time, and allowed for upgrades to our Camp Programs. We held a full two weeks of educational and entertaining Kids’ Camps ran completely by amazing, selfless volunteers. Throughout the year we hosted multiple events including Little Artists’ Painting, the first of its kind Youth Songwriting Workshop, multiple Yoga sessions in the barn, and other events including our Annual trail ride, off site. Our traveling farm program took therapy mini horse, Tom, on a 4 school marathon to celebrate Read Across America Day. Our Board of Directors grew. Our advisory committees grew. It’s truly humbling to be a part of something so great, and Hickory Hill Farm literally could not and would not exist without YOU.
You are our fosters that care for HHF rescues. You are the board members that run the organization day in and out. You are the adopters that choose to give a rescued animal a chance. You are the parents that bring your children out for camps and events. You are the dedicated volunteers filling committee roles, transporting horses, feeding and grooming horses, sharing about your experiences, running Kids’ Camps for days at a time, training horses, and more. You are the generous donors that keep HHF afloat. You are our community that surrounds us with support and love. You are the businesses that graciously provide sponsorships. You are the social media advocate that likes, shares, and comments on posts. You are the people that carry our mission in your heart and spread love and kindness towards people and animals every single day. Hickory Hill Farm belongs to YOU.
